The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand ~ Frank Herbert (1920 - 1986)
Welcome aboard the Federation Starship USS Hartington. The Hartington is primarily responsible for deep space exploration and scientific discoveries throughout the galaxy. Missions include scientific discovery, first contact assignments, discovering new life and civilizations, deep space incursions and tactical assignments.
The Hartington currently operates as the main explorer for the Gamma Quadrant Exploration and Colonization Initiative, venturing coreward from the gamma terminus of the Bajoran Wormhole.
Since the end of the Dominion War, the great powers of the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants seek to bring new territories into their spheres of influence. The Federation's mission of peaceful exploration of the unknown is now more important than ever.
The Hartington is a roleplaying simulation set in the Star Trek Universe during the year 2380, 5 years after the events of the final episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine "What You Leave Behind" and one year after the events in the motion picture Star Trek: Nemesis.
We are working hard to ensure this remains one of the most exciting simulations too ever take place in the Star Trek universe. If you’re willing to make a difference, to "Boldly go where no one has gone before", then we are for you. Please simply complete the online application form by clicking "Join Starfleet" on the right hand side of this page and make the start, on that amazing journey!

We have a little update for you here. The votes have been tallied and the winner of the Crew's Choice Player of the Month for November 2013 is Mary, player of Lieutenant Kinkaid.
For Command's Choice Player of the Month, Alaina and I had a tough time picking -- not because we have poor players, but because everyone is doing very well. In the end, we settled on Theresa, player of Doctor Letha. There are two primary reasons we picked her. Firstly, I think her posts are fantastic. Lengthily, well thought out and researched and full of spirit. She is also tackling two primary characters at once, which is a tough thing to do well.
Our December trivia winner is Luke, but only on a technicality. He had someone giving him a run for his money for a minute there. Unfortunately, we lost the player, so someone else will have to dethrone the king of Trivia. Will Andrew come back to finally reclaim his title of Trivia Master?
Congratulations to everyone, you all deserve the awards you've received!

I just wanted to take a moment to wish each and every one of you a very happy new year. I look forward to continuing to lead you all for the forseeable future as we continue to produce a quality star trek story, as well as pushing each of us to be a better storyteller. May all your dreams for the new year come true.
My friends, make it so.

It's just about 12:30 AM EST as I post this, so it's time for me to say Merry Christmas to all of you. If you don't celebrate Christmas, then please accept a Happy Holidays or just accept the friendly sentiment of someone saying I hope you have a good day!

You'll notice the main Search and Rescue thread is gone and it is replaced by one or more (depending on where you have characters) threads. This is because the main thread reached its word limit (over 11,000 words) and started cutting off text. Luckilly, I get the emails of all past posts and can restore was was lost in a new thread. Normally, you'll remember I typically create a part II of the thread, however this time due to the disjointed nature of the story, the different locations of the characters, I simply split the topics how we had them divided before. Again, if you see something missing, let me know and I'll sort it out. Enjoy!

The final few days of the holiday season are upon us. Thankfully, I have 12/24 and 12/25 off this year, so I will not be suspending gameplay during the Christmas holiday. That being said, I will wave any posting requirements for the "work" week of Christmas (12/23 to 12/27). If you can post, please continue to do so. If you become too busy with holiday things, then that's perfectly cool. I look forward to getting the current story wrapped up with a bow by New Years Day. Everyone have a happy holiday and a merry christmas.

It was getting on towards lunchtime and Commander Qech was moving around her quarters picking up toys in her three-years-old's wake. She was at least attempting to minimize trip hazards, due to the fact that she was expecting company. It had been awhile…
Glinn Kevra was stalking through the hall without a happy expression. The Gul had kept him in lock-up and confinement for far too long, and this was the first opportunity he'd truly had to travel freely about the ship.

"Tell me Commander Qech," the Boslic officer began calmly, "Why did you go along with this abduction so easily after your experience with the last one? Some would be rather skeptical of that action."

Computer, begin log recording.
I find myself surprised. Very surprised actually. I had thought merely being on Terok Nor was the limit to my exposure to more Bajorans, and I hadn't realized they had so swiftly become integrated in the Federation military ranks.
